Web Art 1: What is Web Art?

August 24, 2009 at 5:05 pm (Uncategorized)

First Assignment in Web Art:

Upon looking at the numerous sites defined as web art I noticed a bunch of similarities. The interactive nature is especially evident with buttons placed either directly or hidden on the screen to disorient and enlighten the viewer in some cases.

Also, they show just how much we depend on these buttons to guide us but find that in many cases they just entrap us into a images’ maze that has no escape such as Superbad.com. The image of business approach which the internet is known is shattered, web sites place images all around the screen, there is no friendlessness of use which we expect but have to look all the page to find what we seek.

We also notice that the misconceptions that all art on the web is just scanned images is false. Many of these pieces could only have been created on the web and it is here and only here that they have form.

As with all art the more we try to define it the more we restrict it and the more likely it rebels beyond those well-defined borders.

Hello, I’m Luke Hopkins.

I created this blog for the Web Art class at Metropolitan State College during the Fall Semester of 2009. The purpose of this blog is to extend my knowledge and other like minded or curious individuals, of my personal endeavors in art which is Game Design and Development.

With that in mind my future posts, those sites I bookmark using Delicious, and my own personal works I will upload to this blog will reflect that interest.
